Spring is the time for graduate admissions and this year two undergraduates from the lab found out they will be continuing with their education at fantastic places: Ian Shire is going to the Scripps chemistry program, and Elizabeth Miller is going to the Stanford biomedical data science program.

Ian joined the lab in 2024 and managed to publish a Tetrahedron paper with just just the two of us as authors. This is a rare accomplishment for an undergrad. I was very glad to see that he has found his true calling with synthetic chemistry.

congrats

Elizabeth was in my lab from 2022 until 2024. She was initially supported by the Emerging Scholars program at KU, which is a really wonderful mechanism to match freshmen with research opportunities. Elizabeth’s path had a clear lean from synthetic chemistry, towards computations. After two years with us, she joined Joanna Slusky’s group to computatioanlly design proteins. Wow.

I wish you both best of luck!
