Apoptosis
Features of apoptosis:
- programmed cell death, or antiseptic cell death
- when cells are damaged, this causes inflammation as the cellular contents spills out
- need a clean way for cells to constantly die (billions every day)
- when cells are damaged, this causes inflammation as the cellular contents spills out
- distinct from necrosis or ferroptosis
- also protects us from accumulating mutations
- demonstrated through activation of caspase enzymes
